The Position:

Senior Occupational/Business Psychologist - the role holder will assess, evaluate and recommend suitability of candidates for employment or promotion, and act as a consultant to senior managers in the building of strong teams, resolution of work related conflicts and managing the psychological aspects of change in the workplace.

Job Outline
-Research, assess, administer, and recommend the most appropriate psychological tools for recruitment, workshops and training leading to enhanced quality of selection and staff development.
-Ensure tools used are appropriately normed and/or adapted to the needs of the organisation as required.
-Proactively develop and deliver relevant workshops across the Group depending on the business requirement and an understanding of the business and its challenges.
-Thereby support staff and managers facing challenges of continuous expansion, growth and business.
-Support management and the HR-Business Support team in implementing corporate change by facilitating interventions, developing appropriate workshops to assist individuals to cope with change, and provide other support in order to minimize resistance to change and facilitate positive forward movement.
-Facilitate team sessions across the business to support the forming of new teams or the growth and development of intact teams.
-Conduct detailed leadership profiling to support promotion, development and high potential assessment.
-Design and conduct assessment and development centres for various purposes as required.
-Research and benchmark international practices particularly in the area of Aviation Psychology ensuring the Emirates Group continues to follow best practice in this area.

Experience and Qualifications:
-Masters degree in Occupational or Business Psychology; Chartership or its equivalent will be of added advantage.
-At least 6 years experience post Masters.
-Membership of the BPS, APS or other international professional body.
-Qualifications and experience on the WAVE, Hogan, EQi would be an advantage.
-Experience facilitating team dynamics sessions using a tool such as the MBTI is essential.
-Significant experience designing and conducting assessment and development centres is also essential.
-Should have worked in an occupational setting in a large corporate; aviation experience would be an added advantage as would the change aspects of M&A and other large organisational change scenarios.
-Practical knowledge of the Gulf culture an advantage.
-Fluency in English language is essential both spoken and written.

Netflix ranks ISP's video streaming capabilities in the UK and Ireland

As it does in North America and the Nordic region, Netflix now publishes internet service provider (ISP) rankings for the United Kingdom and Ireland, effectively scoring each provider?s relative ability to offer bandwidth-intensive services.

Netflix launched in the UK and Ireland in January of this year and since then has garnered one million plus users.

The UK and Ireland have been ranked separately, with the average speed of a Netflix stream in November largely comparing between the two countries ? although the UK does edge a very slight lead.

The average speeds are noticeably lower than those found in the United States and Canada, and also in the Nordic countries that Netflix serves ? Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

The speeds are also noticeably lower than those advertised by the service providers themselves, but a number of factors are at play here explains Grey Peters, Vice President of Product Development at Netflix;

?The average performance is well below the peak performance due to a variety of factors including home Wi-Fi, a wide variety of devices with different capabilities, and a variety of encodes that Netflix uses for streaming TV shows and movies. The relative ranking, however, is an accurate indicator of the quality and consistency of internet access typically experienced across all users, homes, and applications.?

In the UK, Virgin, O2 and BT rank the highest respectively. Considering mobile only, Vodafone, O2 and EE are ranked highest. In Ireland, UPC, Magnet and Imagine offer the greatest streaming speeds respectively. Restrict the table to mobile only and Vodafone, Meteor and O2 are ranked highest respectively.

The providers that do rank the highest are the ones that largely restrict their services to urbanised areas.

Iran a central issue for my next term: Netanyahu

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Iran's perceived nuclear threat against Israel will be the central issue concerning Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government if he is re-elected in a month's time, the Israeli leader said on Saturday.

Netanyahu has set out a mid-2013 "red line" for tackling Iran's uranium enrichment project. The West says this programme is aimed at developing the means to build atomic bombs. Tehran denies this, saying it is enriching uranium for civilian energy.

"Preventing Iran becoming a nuclear (threat) is, I would say, the central aim in my next term if I earn the confidence of voters," Netanyahu told Israel's Channel 2 in a recorded interview.

Opinion polls have consistently shown Netanyahu's rightist Likud Beiteinu party as the clear front-runner for the January 22 elections, meaning he would be called upon to form a new coalition government.

Since announcing elections on October 9, Netanyahu discussed Iran nuclear programme in public less frequently than he had before setting the "red line" in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly on September 27.

But he told interviewers that he was dealing with the issue on a daily basis.

NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre made the serious suggestion that instead of pursuing gun control on a national scale Congress should instead pay for police officers to patrol every school in the United States.

That is a somewhat expensive proposal, as we'll soon see.

The median annual pay for a police officer in 2010 was $55,010, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

There were 98,817 public schools during the 2009-2010 school year, according to the National Center for Education Statistics

If you were to install one full-time cop at each and every school in the United States, it would cost more than $5.4 billion.?

It's not clear if the NRA wants just one, or more.

In Minnesota, Guns In Schools May Be Legal. For Now. | Power Line

Minnesota is both a solidly blue state and a land of political correctness, so it is surprising to learn that guns aren?t necessarily prohibited in the state?s schools. The Minneapolis Star Tribune headlines: ?Little-known Minnesota exemption allows guns in schools.?

For years, Greg Lund carried a loaded gun as a high school principal in northwestern Minnesota. Students, parents and most of the staff at Norman County East High School didn?t know he was armed, but Lund said he couldn?t leave his students? safety to chance.

?There?s little you can do to prevent them from getting in the building,? said Lund, a gun safety educator. ?It was a small, rural school, and it would be 20 minutes or more before we would have police in the building.?

Lund carried the gun with the permission of his superintendent ? and under the provisions of a little-known exemption to the state?s general ban on guns in school. The rule says that any adults who have a state permit to carry a gun can bring the firearm to school once they obtain written permission from a principal or other school authority.

Given what happened at Sandy Hook elementary, one might think that Minnesotans would applaud the foresight manifested by that exemption, and consider whether it should be more broadly implemented. But no:

Brenda Cassellius, the state education commissioner, ?feels very strongly that we should be keeping guns out of schools,? said spokeswoman Charlene Briner. Gov. Mark Dayton agreed, and he will look at tightening the state ban on guns in schools when the Legislature convenes in January, said his spokeswoman, Katharine Tinucci.

I think everyone would agree that our first choice is ?keeping guns out of schools.? The problem is that people come and go from schools all the time. It simply isn?t possible to ensure that all of them are unarmed, and none of them are crazy. That being the case, it seems rather pathetic to take comfort in the fact that guns are ?banned? from schools. Murderers don?t obey signs. But practicality?actually improving safety, as opposed to feeling self-righteous?is not much in evidence:

?I cannot even imagine a situation where we would consider giving people permission to carry guns in school,? Richfield Schools Superintendent Robert Slotterback said. ?You?re not going to have a gun drawn. If they walk up to you, point a gun and fire, it doesn?t matter if you have a gun in your pocket or not.?

So self-defense is impossible, apparently. This really is the mentality that we are dealing with in trying to improve school safety. Unfortunately, now that Minnesota?s governor and legislators are aware of the provision that creates at least the possibility of protecting students from armed predators, it likely will be repealed.
